Trade Markets affected: Counterfeiting and Piracy
Measure: The Office of the United States Trade Representative (USTR) is requesting comments that identify online and physical markets to be considered for inclusion in the 2021 Review of Notorious Markets for Counterfeiting and Piracy (“Notorious Markets List”).
Why this matters: The Notorious Markets List identifies examples of online and physical markets that reportedly engage in and facilitate substantial copyright piracy or trademark counterfeiting. The issue focus for the 2021 Notorious Markets List will examine the adverse impact of counterfeiting on workers involved with the manufacture of counterfeit goods. For reference, a copy of the 2020 Notorious Markets List is available here.
Public Comments: Comments must be submitted by October 11th. Additional details are available in the Federal Register notice.
More information: A copy of the Federal Register notice – which includes details on how to submit comments – is available online here.
Potential action: If your company and/or clients have experienced problems with counterfeiting or piracy of your product(s) in foreign markets, this is an important opportunity to have your views heard. The CNFL DEC Trade Policy Committee would appreciate you sharing with us your or your client’s interest in submitting comments, and we are prepared to support you in preparing your submission if that would be helpful.
